Evaluating teaching and learning in a world without individual lesson grades

with Lindy Barclay

This programme is designed to run as a full day INSET for your school, academy, cluster or federation and is suitable for schools in the primary and secondary sectors.

“Lindy is amazing! She has a wealth of
experience in the classroom and as a Senior
Leader. She is bang up to date and shares her
knowledge with professionalism, enthusiasm
and a terrific sense of humour.”

This practical, inspiring day covers:

  • What Ofsted is looking for
  • The leadership role
  • What ‘outstanding’ looks like, sounds like and feels like
  • Teacher knowledge and passion for their subject
  • Teacher ambition for their students
  • Progress – and how to assess it in a lesson
  • Student motivation and engagement
  • Independent and collaborative learning
  • Teaching students to talk about their learning
  • AfL and differentiation strategies
  • ‘Narrowing the gaps’
  • The crucial role of literacy
  • Planning for ‘typicality’

The day allows plenty of time for reflection, discussion and challenge. It is upbeat and optimistic, and reinforces the reason we came into teaching in the first place: not to satisfy Ofsted, but our enduring commitment to improving the life chances of our students.

Evaluating teaching and learning in a world without individual lesson grades is run by Lindy Barclay.  Lindy is the former Associate Headteacher of a very successful comprehensive school in a deprived area of Southampton where she recently presided over the school’s fourth consecutive ‘outstanding’ Ofsted. She led the school to become an Investors in People Champion, then on to Gold Award last summer. Lindy has had 32 years experience in the teaching profession and still maintains a passion and a commitment to education, despite the forever changing landscape. She is a highly regarded speaker and presenter and has worked for various training organisations including the National College and The Schools’ Network.  Lindy writes for the TES and other education journals.

Typical timings are 0915 – 1530 with breaks for lunch and refreshments but these can be adjusted to suit your schedule.

We are committed to providing outstanding training at a sensible price.    Please email us for details.

As well as providing outstanding INSET days within your school or federation we are always happy to discuss flexible arrangements such as a series of twilight events, inputs with smaller groups, lesson observations, consultancy, coaching and mentoring.
